Children and Adolescent Therapy

At Flourishing Life Psychology Services, we provide professional and caring psychological support for children and adolescents.

As a child or adolescent there are many difficulties that can occur specific to these developmental years. We also understand that it is not easy being a parent or carer and that there are a myriad of issues that one may face as a caregiver. As a parent/carer, we aim to bring up healthy and happy children, however sometimes along the way we find that our kids need some additional external and objective support when faced with a particular situation or issue. Additionally, sometimes as parents/carers we find that we are in need of support ourselves and may benefit by learning specific parenting skills. Parents/carers can find that learning specific skills from an experienced psychologist can help to more effectively parent and deal with the situation at hand that the child or adolescent maybe experiencing. Your child or adolescent may also prefer to speak to someone objective and external to the family about their situation such as a psychologist. The psychologist can also work together with the school and/or allied health professionals to better deal with the situation that the child/adolescent is facing.

The Principal Psychologist, Alena Piccolruaz is here to help parents/carers and their children or adolescents with any issues they may be facing. Alena brings her background and expertise as a School Counsellor & Psychologist and as a mother of 4 children to her work with young people. Having worked with children and adolescents over the years, understands how difficult issues and situations can be to kids at times to solve on their own and at the same time how tricky that can be for parents and carers to navigate. Trust and rapport building are important when counselling children and adolescents in order to be effective, Alena prides herself on her caring and warm nature with young people which helps build trust in the counselling relationship. Alena also has a background in working with children with learning, behavioural, social and emotional regulation difficulties such as ADD, ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) e.g. formerly Aspergers.
